Professional Roof Cleaning & Moss Removal Near You

Moss and organic growth removed with methods chosen for your roof covering, condition and access, for homes and commercial premises across Berkshire, Hampshire and Surrey.

Why roof moss builds up

Roofer removing moss from concrete roof tiles

Moss thrives on shaded, damp roofs, especially near trees. Spores settle in the joints between tiles and grow year after year.

The problems it can cause

Heavy moss can hold moisture against the roof, spoil the look of the property and wash down into gutters and downpipes, where it adds to blockages.

Guide prices

Roof cleaning prices

Roof cleaning has no universal price — a low, light roof with a thin film of moss costs a different amount to a steep, shaded roof carrying years of growth. Your exact price is confirmed free of charge after we see the roof, or from photographs where that's enough.

What we can put a figure on is the work that usually goes alongside a roof clean. Those guide prices below come from the same list we publish on our services page.

  • Guide prices are for domestic properties and don't include access equipment such as a cherry picker
  • Roof surveys and quotations are always free of charge, with no obligation
  • Gutter clearance is usually quoted with the roof clean, so you only pay for one visit

Our roof cleaning process

1. Assess the roof

We check the covering, pitch, condition and access, and plan how to work safely.

2. Remove the moss

Moss is removed by hand or with suitable tools for the roof type. High-pressure washing is not our default.

3. Biocide treatment

Where specified, a biocide is applied to remaining growth to help kill it off and slow regrowth.

4. Clear the gutters

Where included in the agreed scope, gutters are cleared of the debris that comes off the roof.

5. Tidy and remove waste

Waste is bagged and taken away, or disposed of as agreed.

6. Access and safety

Access equipment and site-specific safety planning are arranged where the job needs them.

What biocide treatment does

Biocide being sprayed onto a slate roof at low pressure

A biocide treats moss spores, lichen and algae that remain after cleaning. Many treatments work gradually over weeks or months, depending on the product, the weather and how much growth there was, so the roof may keep improving after we leave.

The right method for the roof

Concrete tiles, clay tiles, slate and other coverings each need a different approach. We choose the method to suit the roof, not the other way round.

Roof cleaning questions

What is roof moss removal?

Moss is carefully removed from the roof covering by hand or with suitable tools for that roof type. We do not use high-pressure washing as a default.

What does a biocide treatment do?

A biocide is applied to remaining organic growth such as moss spores, lichen and algae. It helps kill off growth and slow regrowth.

Will moss disappear immediately after treatment?

Not always. Many biocide treatments work gradually over weeks or months, depending on the product, the weather and how much growth there was.

How much does roof cleaning cost?

Every roof is different. Price depends on roof size, pitch, covering, access, amount of moss, waste disposal and any access equipment, so we quote after a survey or from photographs.

Can I receive a quotation from photographs?

Often, yes. Photos of the roof, gutters and the property help us give an accurate quote; for larger or complex jobs we may still need a site visit.

Which areas do you cover?

Relevant areas of Berkshire, Hampshire and Surrey, subject to the job and access. Send us your postcode and we will confirm.
